What Training Looks Like
Flying a multi-engine airplane requires a completely different level of aircraft management. Our training focuses on building confidence, precision, and sound decision-making in every phase of flight.
ENGINE-OUT OPERATIONS
Learn how to recognize, manage, and safely respond to engine failures during every phase of flight.
VMC DEMONSTRATIONS
Understand critical engine concepts including Vmc, controllability, and asymmetric thrust.
MULTI-ENGINE SYSTEMS
Study fuel, electrical, hydraulic, propeller, landing gear, and engine systems unique to twin-engine aircraft.
PERFORMANCE & WEIGHT & BALANCE
Learn multi-engine performance calculations, single-engine climb performance, and aircraft limitations.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
Practice abnormal and emergency scenarios while developing sound aeronautical decision-making.
CHECKRIDE PREP & PRACTICAL TEST
Receive comprehensive preparation for your FAA practical exam with mock checkrides and scenario-based instruction.
FAA REQUIREMENTS
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Unlike many ratings, the FAA does not require a minimum number of training hours for a Multi-Engine Land Rating. Training is proficiency-based and continues until you demonstrate the knowledge and skill required by the Airman Certification Standards (ACS).
CERTIFICATES & RATINGS
Must hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate
CERTIFICATES & RATINGS
Must hold a Private Pilot Certificate and Instrument Rating.
FLIGHT HOURS
Minimum 250 hours total flight time (Part 61) or 190 hours (Part 141), including specific PIC, cross-country, and night requirements.
KNOWLEDGE TEST
Must pass the FAA Commercial Pilot Knowledge Test with a score of 70% or higher.
MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
Must hold at least a Second Class Medical Certificate.
CONTINUE YOUR JOURNEY
Become a Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI)
Once you’ve earned your Multi-Engine Rating, becoming a Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) allows you to teach in multi-engine aircraft while building valuable flight experience toward airline minimums. MEI training develops advanced instructional techniques, improves your aircraft systems knowledge, and prepares you to confidently teach engine-out procedures, asymmetric flight, and complex aircraft operations.
WHAT AN MEI CAN DO
TEACH IN TWIN-ENGINE AIRCRAFT
BUILD VALUABLE MULTI-ENGINE PIC TIME
ADVANCED INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES
PREPARE STUDENTS FOR MEL CHECKRIDES
EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE FOR AN AIRLINE CAREER
FAA REQUIREMENTS
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
To teach in multi-engine aircraft as an MEI, you’ll need the following.
MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
Must hold at least a Third Class Medical Certificate (or BasicMed).
CERTIFICATES & RATINGS
Commercial or ATP Certificate + Flight Instructor Certificate+ Multi-Engine Rating+Instrument Rating
TEST
Must pass the FAA Multi-Engine Instructor practical test
